In many homes, the coffee table is the "crown jewel" in the living room because it's the best platform for showing your charactericstic. Here's how to character it up.
1. CHOOSE A COMPLEMENTARY TABLE
Before you think about how you're going to stack your fabulous blooms and books, you need to be working with the right kind of table. Your coffee table must complement the colours, style‐and height!‐of surrounding furniture.
Got a small lounge room? Create your coffee table double as a storage area by purchasing a table with a drawer or lower shelf on which to keep books and magazines.
2. BE AWARE OF SPACE
Think about where you want to place your coffee table. Preferably, you want the coffee table to be close enough to your lounge to be able to cozy reach for items, yet far 'enough away' so that you could simply walk between the coffee table and lounge without having to turn sideways or tread too carefully.
Tip: If you have a rug under your coffee table, make sure it extends to just underneath the front legs of each lounge or chair. Any rug that just skirts the circumference of the coffee table underneath would just create the room appear 'smaller'.
3. DECORATE THE COFFEE TABLETOP
Now for the fun part! While there are no hard and fast rules for decorating a coffee table, try to stick to a theme‐and avoid too much clutter.
Tip: Be selective (read: ruthless) and only display items that create sense with the scheme of your lounge room. Also, don't pile books too high. Keeps things at a relatively low level.
